    County getting $35,000 for ‘traffic gardens’ to teach kids about road safety

    Arlington County is receiving $35,000 of assistance to design more “traffic gardens” to help kids learn about traffic safety. Earlier this week, the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) awarded $250,000 of consulting services to five D.C.-area projects with the intention of improving “safety on the region’s roadways, especially for its underserved communities.” One of those is a joint project from Arlington County and Prince George’s County to build traffic gardens at schools. “Traffic gardens are miniature transportation networks with familiar roadway elements, in which children can walk, bike, and scoot to learn the rules of the road and

    Dozens of Loudoun County students stage walkout over sexual assault by boy in girls’ bathroom

    Students in Loudoun County, Virginia, staged a walkout in protest of recent sexual assault cases at the public school system and to show solidarity with victims of such abuses.  “Students who choose to participate will not be penalized for their participation; however, we do ask that students who participate do so peacefully, without signage, and in accordance with the Students Rights and Responsibilities we all reviewed and signed at the beginning of the year,” said Michelle Luttrell, the principal at Loudoun County High School, according to WUSA.     Gov. Gavin Newsom of California has sold his Marin County home in the enclave of Kentfield, CA, for $5,895,000. The politician and his wife, the actor and filmmaker Jennifer Siebel Newsom, placed the remodeled midcentury modern mansion on the market after Newsom took office.     The River Terrace Inn was able to hire some friends and family members of existing staffers to work as housekeepers, said the GM. “We’re able to manage right now,” yet, “we could definitely use another four folks in our housekeeping department,” Farrow said. The Inn uses a hiring bonus as one incentive to draw in those workers, he explained. After 30, 60 and 90 days on the job, new hires receive $200 bonus payments. “We also increased our wages for and housekeepers and cooks,” said Farrow.
