Man accused of taking thousands in Bedford County home improvement frauds

BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A Claysburg man is in jail after being accused of taking thousands of dollars from an area couple for home improvement projects he allegedly never worked on.

Brian Eugene Miller, 58, was accused of taking the money from his clients and not returning to provide materials or do any work. State police were first sent to a home in Harrison Township on Oct. 9, 2023, to investigate home improvement fraud incidents.

According to a criminal complaint, troopers spoke to a husband and wife who said they hired Miller to replace the roof of their house and the roof of a pavilion at their church. They said Miller told them it was going to cost $4,596 for the roofing materials to do the work at their residence and $2,746 to do the work at the church.

The couple said they gave checks to Miller for both projects so he could buy the materials from a company in Duncansville. Miller cashed the checks but never came back to provide the roofing materials or to do any work, according to the complaint. The husband and wife also claimed he stopped communicating with them.

Troopers noted in court documents that the couple reached out to the company in Duncansville to ask if quotes were generated for Miller. The company said that there were quotes for Miller but he never placed an order.
