Five garden design shows to watch for inspiration

Many people in the UK rediscovered, or even newly discovered, a love for gardening as a result of the COVID-19 lockdowns – with the introduction of home-working and furlough, we wanted our garden spaces to look and feel as relaxing as possible.

But after a year, and with life slowly returning to normal, many of us are running out of ideas. So where can we turn? Here are five gardening TV shows bound to inspire you with regard to your garden!

Gardener’s World (BBC)

Gardener’s World has been a regular fixture on British television and in newsstands for many years, with its endearing range of presenters and gardening professionals, fronted by Monty Don, all providing their humble ideas and expertise with regards to keeping a garden space.

Love Your Garden (ITV)

Gardening TV mainstay Alan Titchmarsh has fronted Love Your Garden for over 10 years, an ITV show in which Alan and a crack team of garden specialists update and upgrade the gardens of Britain’s neediest. The show is chock full of brilliant and economical ideas for the average garden, giving you ideas you can surely apply to your own outdoor spaces; there are several patio designs which will have you thinking hard about creating your own patio space, using a patio sealant to keep it in excellent condition and looking as fresh as Alan Titchmarsh’s TV results.

The Big Flower Fight (Netflix)

The Big Flower Fight is a British competition show centred around the designing of floral sculptures and arrangements. Hosted by British television royalty Vic Reeves and comedian Natasia Demetriou, the show is a heart-warming affair, and undoubtedly very inspiring when it comes to more architecture ideas of garden design.

Around the World in 80 Gardens (BBC iPlayer)

This 2008 gardening travel series has seen a resurgence in popularity due to its availability on BBC iPlayer. It features gardening writer and horticultural TV presenter Monty Don as he, true to the name of the show, visits 80 gardens across the world. Visiting Europe from top to bottom, the Americas and east Asia throughout the show’s ten episodes, he showcases a wide variety of gardens and landscapes, from big to small, tame to wild. The sheer breadth of creativity on show in this ten-episode series is sure to give you some ideas with regard to your own patch of land.

Grow Cook Eat (Amazon Prime)

Grow Cook Eat is a show created by the founder of Irish CLG Grow It Yourself, Michael Kelly. From humble roots as an IT salesman, Kelly grew an enterprise around the revolutionary act of growing your own produce – Grow Cook Eat is an extension of that very mission. Each episode looks at a different product, whether garlic, potatoes, tomatoes or peas, and how best to grow each one. The show is extremely beginner-friendly, and is sure to have you thinking about allocating a small patch of your garden to grow spring garlic in.
